The southern city limits of San Diego was created about 1893,
the time of the southwestern land boom. The community was named
after San Diego's harbormaster, Nestor A. Young, in 1889. After
the boom, farmland was replaced by residential dwellings but today
many of the farms, stables, and citrus groves remain.
The U.S. and Mexican border is less than 10 miles away via Interstate
5. Housing structure show an apparent influence from Mexico. There
is a a variety of architectural styles and housing options throughout
the community. Other features include three community parks, the
Tijuana border and Southline trolley service. Nearby communities
